What is the correct engine oil specification for Mercedes-Benz E-Class models in Pakistan’s hot climate?
I own a Mercedes E-Class W212, and mechanics here in Pakistan often use different engine oil grades. Some say 5W-30, others recommend 10W-40. What is the manufacturer-recommended engine oil specification for E-Class models diesel o r petrol, especially considering Pakistan’s high temperatures and heavy traffic?

The recommended engine oil for most Mercedes-Benz E-Class models W211, W212, W213 is based on MB 229.5 o r MB 229.51 specifications. For Pakistan’s hot weather, high-quality synthetic oil with a viscosity of 5W-40 is ideal.
Recommended Oil:
Viscosity: 5W-40 preferred o r 5W-30 in colder regions like Murree o r Quetta
Specification: MB 229.5 / 229.51 fully synthetic
Brands: Liqui Moly, Mobil 1, Shell Helix Ultra, Total Quartz
Avoid:
10W-40 o r mineral oils — often used by local mechanics but not ideal for modern Mercedes engines.
Low-grade o r unverified oils — they increase wear and sludge.
Tip: Always check the engine code e.g., M272, M274 to match oil type precisely and change oil every 7,000–10,000 km due to dusty conditions in Pakistan.
