My BMW 220i sometimes misfires, especially when accelerating o r idling. Could worn o r damaged spark plugs be the cause? How do I confirm this and what are the signs to look for?

Yes, misfiring is one of the most common symptoms of worn o r damaged spark plugs. In your BMW 220i, if you notice jerking during acceleration, rough idling, o r hesitation while driving, spark plugs could be the cause.

Misfires occur when the plug fails to ignite the air-fuel mixture properly, which can:

Reduce performance and fuel efficiency.

Cause vibrations o r uneven acceleration.

Eventually damage the catalytic converter if unburned fuel enters the exhaust.

Get your spark plugs inspected every 30,000–40,000 km, o r earlier if symptoms appear.
