Why is my Land Rover’s transmission overheating o r showing warning messages like “Transmission Service Soon”?
My Land Rover displays transmission warning messages o r overheats after driving in heavy traffic o r on long routes in Pakistan’s hot climate. The gear shifts sometimes go harsh o r the transmission enters limp mode. What common transmission problems contribute to overheating and warning messages e.g., dirty/old fluid, blocked cooler, internal wear, software calibration issues? What steps can I take to check transmission fluid condition, cooling systems, o r sensor faults before seeking professional service?

Gari Master - on 11 Dec 2025 13:27:38 pmTransmission overheating triggers limp mode and warning messages. Causes include:
Low o r dirty transmission fluid
Overheats because it cannot lubricate o r cool properly.
Check fluid color and smell replace if burnt o r dark.
Blocked o r faulty transmission cooler
Dust, mud, o r leaks reduce cooling efficiency.
Clean the cooler and check for leaks.
Internal wear o r mechanical faults
Worn clutch packs, torque converter, o r hydraulic issues can generate excess heat.
Symptoms: harsh shifts, slipping, o r limp mode.
Electronic o r sensor problems
Faulty temperature sensors o r TCM errors can trigger warnings even if fluid is fine.
Scanning the TCM can identify sensor o r solenoid faults.
Heavy loads o r off-road driving
Continuous uphill driving, towing, o r stop-and-go traffic in Pakistan can overwork the transmission.
Solution/Diagnosis:
Inspect fluid and replace if necessary.
Clean o r repair the transmission cooler.
Scan TCM for fault codes.
Limit heavy towing o r off-road use until repaired.
Persistent overheating requires professional internal inspection.
