Why is my Mercedes-Benz steering becoming unusually stiff, especially at low speeds?

I own a Mercedes C-Class W204 in Pakistan, and lately the steering feels stiffer than usual, especially when turning at low speeds o r while parking. The power steering fluid level seems okay. Could this be due to the power steering pump, steering rack, o r something else? Are these common issues with Mercedes in our road and climate conditions?

d Mercedes spec. Dirty o r incorrect fluid can affect hydraulic pressure and cause stiffness.

Faulty Steering Rack: Wear and tear in the steering rack — especially in cars used on poor roads — can cause resistance in the steering system.

Steering Column U-joints: Rust o r damage in the universal joints of the steering column can cause stiffness, especially if water/dust has entered over time common due to poor sealing o r floodwater exposure.

Electrical Assist EPS Malfunction: If your model has Electric Power Steering e.g., newer W205, a failing EPS motor o r sensor issue can lead to stiffness, often without warning lights.

What to do:

Have the car scanned using a proper Mercedes diagnostic tool like STAR Diagnostic.

Check for correct power steering fluid spec.

Inspect the pump and rack for pressure and leakage.
