My 2014 Swift jerks when I accelerate, especially in second o r third gear. The engine also feels rough sometimes. A mechanic said it might be due to old o r fouled spark plugs. How do I confirm this, and how often should they be replaced in Pakistan?

Yes, worn o r dirty spark plugs are a very common cause of misfiring and jerking, especially during acceleration. Spark plugs are responsible for igniting the air-fuel mixture. If they’re worn out o r fouled with carbon, they won’t fire properly.

Symptoms of bad spark plugs:

Jerking o r hesitation during acceleration

Rough idling

Poor fuel economy

Engine misfire codes e.g., P0300, P0301

In Pakistan, these symptoms are often made worse by stop-and-go city traffic, poor fuel quality, and delayed maintenance. Spark plugs in the Swift should ideally be replaced every 20,000–30,000 km for copper plugs o r 60,000–100,000 km for iridium/platinum plugs.
