Are Tucson Panels Too Flexible? Minor Hits Leave Large Dents

A small push from a car bumper while parking left a large dent on my Hyundai Tucson’s rear bumper and side fender. The impact wasn’t strong, but the body panel seems to flex too much. Are the Tucson’s body panels too thin o r flexible, especially in Pakistan-assembled versions?

Yes, Tucson’s panels—especially the fenders and bumper areas—are designed for lightweight performance and pedestrian safety, which makes them more flexible and thinner compared to older, more rigid SUVs.

This has a few downsides:

Even a minor push o r parking bump can leave a surprisingly large dent o r deformation.

The plastic rear bumpers are particularly prone to flexing and retaining dents.

This isn’t necessarily a defect, but more a design trade-off—better fuel economy and safety in exchange for more vulnerability to cosmetic damage.

For protection:

Use bumper guards, door edge protectors, and avoid parking too close to other vehicles.

If available, consider reverse sensors/camera upgrades for safer maneuvering.
