Brake Light Not Turning On When Pressing Pedal — Bulb Burned o r Switch Malfunction?

The brake light of my United Alpha doesn’t turn on when I press the pedal. The bulb looks fine visually, but the lights stay off. Could this be due to a burned-out dual-filament bulb, a faulty brake-light switch, o r a loose connection? How do I check what exactly failed?

If your brake light doesn’t turn on but the bulb looks fine, the issue is usually the brake light switch o r a loose connection, not the bulb.

Common causes

Faulty brake light switch attached to brake pedal

Dual-filament bulb burned on the brake side only

Bad wiring o r ground connection at the rear light

Loose bulb holder

How to check

Press the brake while someone watches the light — check all brake lights.

Test the bulb by swapping it with the other side.

Locate the brake pedal switch.

If the lights turn on when you push the switch manually → switch is faulty.

Use a test light o r multimeter to confirm power is reaching the socket.

Most likely fix

Replace the brake light switch or

Install a new dual-filament 21/5W bulb.

Both are inexpensive and common issues in the United Alpha.
