Can a clogged oil filter cause engine noise o r damage in my Suzuki Swift?

I delayed my last oil change by a few thousand kilometers on my 2014 Swift, and now the engine makes a ticking noise. A mechanic said the oil filter might be clogged. Can that really cause engine damage o r oil starvation?

Yes, a clogged oil filter can restrict oil flow, leading to engine noise and even long-term damage. The oil filter traps metal particles and sludge. If its clogged, oil pressure can o r bypass the filter entirely—causing poor lubrication.

Common effects:

Ticking o r knocking sounds from engine

Oil pressure warning light

Engine overheating

Accelerated wear on engine components

This is especially risky if you delay oil changes o r use low-quality engine oil, which is a common issue in Pakistan. Always replace the oil filter every time you change oil—usually every 5,000–7,000 km. Using a genuine o r OEM-quality filter is critical.
