Can a loose o r damaged fuel cap cause fuel to evaporate from my Mehran?

I’ve noticed that my Mehran’s fuel consumption seems higher than usual, and I often smell fuel around the car. Could a loose o r damaged fuel cap be causing fuel to evaporate o r causing pressure issues in the tank? How do I check if the cap is the problem?

Yes, a loose o r damaged fuel cap can cause fuel evaporation and fuel tank pressure issues. The fuel cap is designed to seal the fuel system, maintaining the correct pressure in the tank and preventing evaporation. A faulty cap can lead to:

Fuel fumes leaking from the tank

Increased fuel consumption

Strong fuel odor If you suspect the cap is the issue, try tightening the cap securely, and if the issue continues, replace the fuel cap. Also, check if the rubber gasket is intact.
