Can bad fuel in Pakistan damage Mercedes-Benz ignition coils? Question Detail:

I own a Mercedes E200 W212 and usually get petrol from local stations in Lahore. After a recent refill, my car started showing rough idling and loss of power. Could poor fuel quality o r contaminated petrol damage the ignition coils o r spark plugs? How do I prevent this from happening again?

Yes, bad o r contaminated fuel is a known factor that can indirectly cause ignition coil damage in Pakistan.

Here’s how it happens:

Low-quality o r adulterated petrol leads to incomplete combustion.

Incomplete combustion puts extra strain on ignition coils and spark plugs, as they must work harder to ignite poor fuel-air mixtures.

This causes misfiring, carbon buildup, and eventual coil failure.

Signs of damage due to bad fuel:

Engine hesitation

Check engine light

Misfiring o r jerking

Rough idling

What you can do:

Use high-octane fuel Hi-Octane from trusted petrol stations e.g., PSO, Shell, Total.

Add a fuel system cleaner every 5,000–10,000 km only use reputable brands like Liqui Moly.

Replace spark plugs and coils if the damage is already done.
