Can Low Refrigerant Cause Intermittent Cooling in My Hyundai Tucson?

Sometimes the AC in my Tucson blows cold air for a few minutes, then turns warm, and then back to cold. This cycle keeps repeating. I suspect low refrigerant o r a leak. How can I confirm this, and do Tucson AC systems have a known leakage issue in local models?

Yes, low refrigerant is one of the most common causes of intermittent cooling. Here’s what happens:

When refrigerant is low, the evaporator coils freeze up, and the AC stops cooling temporarily.

Once the ice melts, it resumes cooling until it freezes again — causing a cycle of cold and warm air.

This may also trigger the AC pressure switch to cut off the compressor.

To confirm:

Have the refrigerant pressure checked.

Look for leaks in the hoses, condenser, o r evaporator.

If a leak is found, it must be repaired before refilling gas — otherwise, the problem will return.

Pakistani conditions heat + vibrations + poor roads often lead to small gas leaks that worsen over time.
