Can using the wrong engine oil type increase oil consumption in a Suzuki Swift?

I recently switched to a different engine oil brand and viscosity for my Suzuki Swift. Ever since, I’ve noticed higher oil consumption. Could using a thinner o r non-recommended oil be causing faster burn o r leakage?

Yes, using the wrong engine oil type can significantly increase oil consumption. Oil that is too thin o r does not meet the manufacturer’s viscosity requirements may not lubricate the engine as efficiently, leading to increased wear and oil burning.

Common Causes:

Incorrect oil viscosity: If the oil is too thin for the engine, it may not form a proper seal in the rings and seals, allowing oil to leak into the combustion chamber.

Low-quality o r incorrect oil type: Non-synthetic oils o r oils that are not designed for high-mileage engines may cause premature oil consumption.

Frequent oil changes with incorrect oil brands o r grades can degrade engine components.

Fixes:

Always use the recommended oil type and viscosity for your Suzuki Swift usually mentioned in the owner’s manual.

If you’ve recently changed oil types, switch back to the correct grade.

Regularly check oil levels and top up with the correct oil if necessary.

Consult with a mechanic if oil consumption continues despite using the correct oil type.
