Does using tap water instead of coolant cause overheating in Suzuki Mehran?

Ive been using plain tap water in my Mehran’s radiator for years instead of proper coolant. Recently, it’s been overheating more often. Could this practice have caused rust o r blockage in the radiator o r water body?

Yes, long-term use of plain tap water instead of proper coolant can cause serious issues. Tap water in Pakistan contains minerals that lead to scale buildup and corrosion inside the radiator, pipes, and engine block. Over time, this restricts coolant flow, reduces heat transfer, and can cause partial o r complete blockages.

You should:

Flush the entire cooling system.

Inspect the radiator for rust o r blockage.

Switch to a good quality coolant like ZIC, Caltex, o r Guard mixed with distilled water 50/50. This not only improves cooling but also prevents rust and scale.
