I want to avoid sudden alternator failure in my Mercedes-Benz S-Class. What are the early warning signs o r symptoms that indicate the alternator is starting to fail? Are there any specific diagnostic checks I can do in Pakistan without advanced equipment?

Early detection is crucial to avoid sudden breakdowns. Watch for these common symptoms:
Dim o r Flickering Lights: Headlights and interior lights may flicker o r dim when the alternator fails to supply enough power.
Battery Warning Light: The dashboard battery o r alternator warning light may illuminate, indicating charging system issues.
Electrical Failures: Malfunctioning infotainment, power windows, o r other electrical components.
Strange Noises: Whining o r grinding noises from the engine bay could indicate worn alternator bearings.
Dead Battery: A failing alternator can’t charge the battery properly, leading to frequent battery failures.
You can perform a basic test by checking battery voltage with a multimeter it should read around 13.5-14.5 volts when the engine is running. If it’s lower, the alternator may not be charging properly.
