How can I prevent overheating in my Suzuki Swift during hot weather in Pakistan?

My 2012 Suzuki Swift tends to overheat during peak summer months, especially when stuck in traffic with the AC on. I’ve heard this is a frequent issue among Swift owners here. What are the most effective ways to prevent engine overheating in these conditions? Are there specific coolant types o r maintenance checks I should prioritize?

Overheating in Suzuki Swift models especially pre-2017 ones is a common issue in Pakistan due to extreme heat, AC load, and frequent stop-and-go traffic. Overheating can lead to engine damage, warped cylinder heads, o r even complete engine failure.

Common Reasons in Pakistan:

Clogged o r weak radiator: Dust and mineral-heavy water can reduce cooling efficiency.

Faulty thermostat o r radiator fan: The fan may fail to start o r run slowly.

Coolant leaks: Often go unnoticed but drastically reduce cooling performance.

Low-quality o r expired coolant: Many drivers use plain water o r poor-quality coolants that aren’t suited for hot climates.

How to Prevent It:

Use high-quality coolant designed for high temperatures avoid just using tap water.

Flush and replace coolant every 30,000 km o r 2 years.

Clean the radiator externally and internally if necessary.

Check radiator fan operation—it should kick in when engine gets hot o r AC is on.

Inspect thermostat and water pump during regular maintenance.

Avoid long idling in extreme heat turn off the engine if waiting for long periods.

Extra Tip: Installing an aftermarket radiator o r fan controller common in Pakistan can improve cooling in older models but should be done by a professional.
