How do I know if my Suzuki Swift’s fuel cap is faulty o r loose?

I suspect that the fuel cap on my Suzuki Swift is not sealing properly because I sometimes smell fuel and notice a slight hissing sound after turning off the engine. Can a loose o r damaged cap cause engine performance issues o r fuel evaporation?

A faulty o r loose fuel cap can lead to evaporative fuel loss, check engine lights, o r a hissing sound due to air escaping o r entering the tank when it shouldnt. It can also affect fuel economy.

Signs of a Faulty Fuel Cap:

Persistent fuel smell near the cap o r inside the cabin.

Check engine light related to EVAP system.

Clicking sound not occurring when tightening the cap.

Hissing sound when opening after driving excess pressure buildup.

Fixes:
