How to check if my Mehrans thermostat is working o r jammed?

I suspect the thermostat in my Suzuki Mehran is not working correctly — the car takes a lot of time to warm up, and sometimes the temperature suddenly shoots up. Is there a DIY method to check if the thermostat is jammed open o r closed?

You can do a basic test:

Start the car cold and let it idle.

Touch the upper radiator pipe — it should stay cold at first.

Once the engine warms up ~5–10 mins, the pipe should suddenly become hot — this means the thermostat opened. If the pipe is hot from the start, the thermostat is likely stuck open.
If it stays cold even after 10–15 minutes, it might be stuck closed.
