Is a Dirty Fuel Filter Causing Engine Hesitation o r Jerking in My Tucson?

Sometimes when I accelerate, especially on inclines, my Tucson jerks slightly o r feels like it’s struggling. A mechanic suggested checking the fuel filter. Could a clogged fuel filter cause this, and is this a common issue with locally available fuel quality in Pakistan?

Yes, a clogged fuel filter can cause jerking, hesitation, o r poor acceleration, especially when:

Driving uphill o r under heavy load.

Trying to overtake o r accelerate quickly.

Pakistan’s fuel quality especially from unbranded o r remote fuel stations may contain impurities that clog the fuel filter prematurely. A dirty filter restricts fuel flow, starving the engine during acceleration.

Recommended solution:

Replace the fuel filter every 30,000–40,000 km, o r earlier if performance issues occur.

Only use trusted fuel stations and occasionally add a fuel system cleaner to reduce buildup.

If ignored, a clogged fuel filter can also damage the fuel pump over time.
