Is poor-quality fuel in Pakistan responsible for damaging the catalytic converter in my Swift?

I usually fill up at local petrol pumps, but someone told me that poor fuel quality in Pakistan can ruin the catalytic converter. Can low-octane o r adulterated fuel really cause clogging o r damage in a Swift?

Yes, low-quality o r adulterated fuel is one of the leading causes of catalytic converter failure in Pakistan. Many local fuel stations sell petrol with:

Excess sulfur

Unapproved additives

Contamination with kerosene o r water

These contaminants can:

Cause incomplete combustion

Lead to carbon deposits on the catalytic converter

Damage the O2 sensors, which then send incorrect signals to the ECU

To prevent this:

Fill from trusted fuel stations

Avoid regular use of “hi-octane blends” from unknown pumps

Use fuel system cleaners every 10,000–15,000 km

Get the engine tuned regularly to avoid running too rich
