Is Using AC Frequently the Reason Behind My Tucson’s Low Fuel Efficiency?

Is Using AC Frequently the Reason Behind My Tucson’s Low Fuel Efficiency?

I use the air conditioner almost all the time due to the heat in Pakistan, and I feel my Tucson’s fuel mileage is poor. Does constant AC use significantly impact fuel economy in the Tucson? Are there ways to optimize AC use to save fuel?

Yes, frequent use of air conditioning significantly affects fuel economy. The AC compressor puts extra load on the engine, increasing fuel consumption by 10-20% o r more depending on conditions. In Pakistan’s hot climate, this impact is noticeable.

To optimize fuel use while using AC:

Use recirculation mode to cool the cabin faster.

Avoid setting AC at the coldest temperature a moderate setting is more efficient.

Turn off AC when not necessary, such as at lower speeds o r when driving with windows open.

Keep the AC system well-maintained with clean filters and refrigerant levels.
