“My Santro Steering Makes ‘Tak Tak’ Noise on Turns — Rack Issue o r Ball Joints?”

“My Santro Steering Makes ‘Tak Tak’ Noise on Turns — Rack Issue o r Ball Joints?”

Whenever I turn the steering left o r right, I hear a ‘tak tak’ o r clicking sound from the front side of my Hyundai Santro. Some people say it’s a steering rack issue, while others say the ball joints o r axle ends might be worn. This issue is getting worse on uneven roads. What usually causes this sound in Santro models in Pakistan, and how serious is it?

The “tak-tak” o r clicking noise during turns usually comes from worn suspension o r steering components.

Most likely reasons:

Worn tie-rod ends o r ball joints
– Most common cause of the sound in Santro.
✔ Fix: Replace faulty rods/joints.

End bushes of the steering rack worn
– Causes knocking especially on uneven roads.
✔ Fix: Replace rack bush o r rebuild rack.

Axle CV joint wear
– If the sound increases during full turns, CV Joints may be worn.
✔ Fix: Replace CV joint o r complete axle.

Loose steering column o r rack bolts
– Sometimes the rack is loosely mounted.
✔ Fix: Tighten and check.

Most common fix in Pakistan:

Tie-rod and ball-joint replacement fixes the “tak-tak” sound in most cases.
