Suzuki Swift makes squealing noise while braking – are the brake pads worn out?

My 2019 Swift has recently started making a high-pitched squealing sound when I apply the brakes, especially at low speeds. Could this be due to worn-out brake pads, o r is it just brake dust? How do I know when it’s time to replace the pads?

A squealing noise while braking is often a warning sign of worn brake pads, though it can also be caused by dust o r glazing on the pads.

Possible Causes:
Built-in wear indicator scraping the rotor intended to warn you.

Dust o r dirt buildup between pad and rotor.

Overheated o r glazed pads, common in stop-start driving o r downhill braking.

Noisy aftermarket pads made of poor material.

What to Do:
Get the brake pads visually inspected—if the pad material is less than 3 mm, replace them.

Clean the pads and rotors if they’re dusty but not worn.

Replace with ceramic o r semi-metallic pads to avoid noise.
