What causes a fuel smell inside my Swift cabin — could it be the purge control valve?

Recently, I noticed a raw fuel smell inside the cabin, especially after refueling. There are no visible leaks. Could a faulty purge valve be allowing fuel vapors to enter the intake o r cabin?

Yes, a faulty o r leaking purge control valve can be one of the reasons for fuel odors inside the cabin, especially after refueling.

Reasons it happens:

The valve may leak vapor when closed, causing unburned fuel fumes to enter the engine bay and then the cabin.

A stuck-open valve can allow vapors to flood the intake manifold, especially in hot weather after refueling.

Other possible causes include:

Loose fuel cap

Cracked EVAP hoses

Leaking charcoal canister

In Pakistan’s high temperatures, fuel expands faster, and any weakness in the EVAP system including the purge valve becomes more noticeable. A scan tool o r smoke test can help confirm the leak source.
