The strong smell of petrol from the exhaust can be an indication that the engine is not burning the fuel efficiently. This could be due to several reasons:

Common causes:

Rich fuel mixture: If the engine is getting too much fuel due to malfunctioning fuel injectors o r sensors, it will cause unburned fuel to pass through the exhaust.

Leaking fuel system: Fuel leaks in the fuel lines, injectors, o r fuel tank can cause an odor.

Faulty catalytic converter: A failing catalytic converter may not be able to filter out harmful gases properly.

Solutions:

Check fuel injectors: Inspect for any leaking injectors. Replacing faulty injectors Rs. 2,000–4,000 per injector will resolve the issue.

Inspect the fuel system for leaks: If you notice petrol odor, check the fuel lines and tank for leaks. A fuel system check-up by a mechanic Rs. 500–1,000 should help identify the issue.

Replace the catalytic converter: If the converter is failing, replacing it is the only solution Rs. 10,000–15,000.

Ensure that your car doesn’t emit dangerous, unfiltered fuel odors, which could also be harmful to the environment.
