What causes unusual noise o r knocking sounds when steering my Mercedes-Benz S-Class on Pakistani roads?
While driving my Mercedes-Benz S-Class, I often hear knocking o r clunking noises coming from the steering area, especially when turning o r going over bumps on uneven roads in Pakistan. The noise seems to be worse on rough terrain o r potholes. Could this be related to worn-out tie rods, ball joints, o r steering rack problems? How can I diagnose and resolve this issue effectively?

Knocking o r clunking noises when turning o r going over bumps usually indicate wear o r damage in the steering and suspension components:
Worn tie rod ends: These connect the steering rack to the wheels and can make knocking noises if loose o r damaged.
Damaged ball joints: These pivot points can cause clunking when worn out.
Steering rack issues: Internal wear o r damage can produce noise during steering movements.
Suspension bushings: Deteriorated bushings also contribute to such noises.
Loose o r damaged components: Rough Pakistani roads increase wear and loosen components.
Recommended fixes:
Have tie rods, ball joints, and bushings inspected and replaced if necessary.
Check the steering rack for leaks o r damage.
Perform regular suspension maintenance, especially if driving often on pothole-ridden roads.
