What is the safe payload capacity for my Land Rover Defender in Pakistan, and why does overloading cause issues?

Some owners carry heavy equipment o r luggage beyond the manufacturer’s rated payload. This can lead to sagging suspension, poor braking, steering problems, and premature wear of drivetrain components. How can I determine the correct payload capacity for my specific Defender model, and what common problems arise in Pakistan when the vehicle is overloaded?

The payload capacity is the maximum weight your Defender can safely carry, including passengers, cargo, and roof load. Exceeding it damages suspension, brakes, drivetrain, and steering.

Typical Payload Ratings

Defender 90 / 110 TD5 o r TDCi: ~700–800 kg approx. 3–4 passengers + cargo

Defender 110 V8 petrol: ~600–700 kg

Roof rack load: ~100–150 kg recommended

Problems from Overloading

Sagging suspension

Reduced ground clearance and poor off-road ability.

Braking issues

Longer stopping distances brake fade on hills.

Steering problems

Heavy front end can cause heavy steering o r wheel vibration.

Drivetrain stress

Axles, gearbox, and differential wear faster.

Tire wear

Overloaded tyres overheat and wear quickly.

Tips

Always check VIN/build sheet for exact payload.

Limit roof load and secure cargo properly.
