Why Does My Hyundai Tucson Make a Clicking Sound but Won’t Start?

When I turn the key o r push the start button in my Tucson, I just hear a single o r repeated clicking noise. Is this a clear sign of a busted starter motor, o r could it be another electrical issue like the relay o r ignition switch?

A clicking sound when turning the key usually points to one of three things:

Starter solenoid is engaging but the motor isn’t turning.

Weak battery o r bad battery terminals.

Starter relay o r wiring fault.

In most cases, a repeated clicking indicates not enough power is reaching the starter motor due to either a failing motor, corroded wiring, o r a worn solenoid. A single click followed by silence often points to a stuck o r failed solenoid.

If your battery has been ruled out, its best to:

Test the starter relay and solenoid.

Check all battery and ground connections.

Remove and bench test the starter motor to confirm if it needs replacing.
