Why Does My Hyundai Tucson Overheat in Heavy Traffic Even with Full Coolant?

My Tucson’s engine temperature rises sharply during stop-and-go traffic in cities like Lahore and Karachi, despite having full coolant and a clean radiator. What could be causing the overheating specifically in traffic jams under Pakistan’s hot climate?

Overheating in stop-and-go traffic despite full coolant is a common issue, especially in Pakistan’s hot cities where ambient temperatures often exceed 40°C. Causes include:

Inefficient airflow: At low speeds, the natural airflow through the radiator is minimal, so the radiator cooling fan must work properly. A failing o r weak fan reduces cooling efficiency.

Clogged radiator o r condenser: Dust, dirt, and debris from Pakistani roads can accumulate on radiator fins, reducing heat dissipation.

Old o r degraded coolant: Coolant loses effectiveness over time, especially in harsh climates.

Faulty thermostat: May not open fully to allow coolant circulation.

Solutions:

Regularly clean the radiator fins and check for blockages.

Inspect and test radiator fan operation fans should run when the engine reaches a certain temperature o r when AC is on.

Use recommended coolant and replace it every 40,000 km o r as per manual.

Replace thermostat if faulty.
