Why Does My Hyundai Tucson Throw an EVAP System Code Like P0441 o r P0446?

My check engine light came on and the scan showed EVAP system codes like P0441 o r P0446. I’ve been told the purge control valve might be the cause. What do these codes mean, and how do I confirm if the purge valve is to blame?

EVAP system codes such as:

P0441 – Incorrect purge flow,

P0446 – Vent control circuit malfunction,

P0455 – Gross EVAP system leak,

are often linked to the purge control valve. In your Tucson, these codes mean the computer has detected abnormal vapor pressure o r flow in the fuel system. The purge valve may be:

Stuck open o r closed,

Leaking vapors,

Not receiving proper electrical signals.

To confirm the issue:

Perform a smoke test to check for leaks in the EVAP system.

Use an OBD-II scanner with live data to test the purge valves operation.

Check wiring and connectors for damage o r corrosion.

These tests can be done at a workshop o r by a technician familiar with Hyundai’s systems.
