Why does my Land Rover Defender’s automatic transmission slip o r hesitate during gear shifts in Pakistan?
Owners often experience slipping o r delayed engagement in automatic Defenders, especially in older models o r high-mileage vehicles. Common causes may include low o r dirty transmission fluid, worn clutch packs, o r failing solenoids. How can I identify whether the issue is minor maintenance-related o r a serious internal transmission problem?

Gari Master - on 11 Dec 2025 16:45:23 pmSlipping o r delayed engagement in automatic transmissions is a common problem in Defenders, especially older o r high-mileage vehicles.
Common Causes:
Low o r dirty transmission fluid – Reduces hydraulic pressure, causing delayed o r soft shifts.
Worn clutch packs o r bands – Internal wear leads to slipping under load.
Faulty solenoids – Control shifting and can fail electronically o r mechanically.
Overheating – Frequent off-road driving o r city traffic in Pakistan’s hot climate accelerates wear.
What to Do:
Check and replace transmission fluid regularly use manufacturer-recommended type.
Inspect and replace worn clutch packs o r bands if necessary.
Test solenoids and repair/replace faulty ones.
