Why does my Suzuki Mehran consume more fuel on short trips?

My 2016 Suzuki Mehran gives me decent mileage on longer routes, but during short trips around the neighborhood, fuel consumption goes up significantly. Is this normal, o r could there be an issue with the choke, engine temperature, o r fuel-air mixture?

This is actually a normal issue with older cars like Mehran, especially carbureted engines. Here’s why:

The engine runs richer more fuel when cold.

Choke system stays active longer on short trips.

Oil and coolant don’t reach optimal temperature, leading to less efficient combustion.

More stops and starts increase consumption.

To reduce this effect:

Warm up the car for just 30 seconds to 1 minute, not more.

Combine short trips if possible.

Use a thermostat valve many local owners remove it, but it helps engine warm up faster.
