Why does my Suzuki Mehran’s gear stick feel stiff o r hard to shift?

Lately, I’ve noticed that shifting gears in my Suzuki Mehran has become difficult. The gear stick feels stiff, and it’s hard to move it smoothly between gears. What could be causing this issue, and how can I fix it? Is it a transmission-related problem?

A stiff o r hard-to-shift gear stick can be caused by several issues, typically related to the clutch, gear linkage, o r transmission fluid.

Common Causes:

Low o r old transmission fluid: If the transmission fluid is low, dirty, o r has not been replaced for a while, it can cause the gears to become stiff and hard to shift.

Worn clutch: A worn-out clutch can make it difficult to engage gears properly, causing stiffness.

Faulty gear linkage: The linkage that connects the gear stick to the transmission can become loose o r worn, making it difficult to shift.

Cold weather: Sometimes, cold temperatures can thicken the transmission fluid, causing stiff shifting, especially during the winter months.

Solutions:

Check transmission fluid: Ensure the transmission fluid is at the correct level and replace it if it’s old o r dirty. Transmission fluid change costs around Rs. 1,500–2,500.

Inspect the clutch: If the clutch is worn out, it will need to be replaced Rs. 7,000–12,000.

Check the gear linkage: If the gear linkage is worn o r loose, a mechanic will need to inspect and adjust o r replace it Rs. 1,000–3,000.

Warm-up the car: Allow your car to warm up in cold weather, as this can help the transmission fluid become more fluid and reduce stiffness.
