Why does my Suzuki Swift overheat in traffic but stays cool on the highway?

I own a 2014 Suzuki Swift in Karachi, and it runs fine on the highway, but starts overheating when I’m stuck in traffic o r idling for long periods. The radiator fan seems to be working. What could be causing this heat build-up in city conditions?

Overheating in traffic but not on highways is a classic symptom of insufficient cooling at low speeds, often due to:

Radiator fan failure – The fan may not turn on when needed during idle.

Weak fan motor o r blown fuse

Faulty fan relay o r temperature sensor

Partially blocked radiator – Prevents proper heat dissipation when there’s no strong airflow.

On the highway, natural airflow through the radiator helps cool the engine, but in city traffic e.g., in Karachi o r Lahore, the engine relies on the radiator fan. Have a mechanic test the fan operation, especially when the engine warms up. Also check the radiator for dust o r mud buildup, common in urban Pakistan.
