Why does my Suzuki Swift’s check engine light turn on and off randomly? Could it be related to the catalytic converter?

Why does my Suzuki Swift’s check engine light turn on and off randomly? Could it be related to the catalytic converter?

The check engine light on my 2013 Swift turns on occasionally but goes away after a few days. The car runs okay, but the mechanic says it could be related to the catalytic converter o r O2 sensors. How do I confirm the issue?

Yes, if your check engine light CEL comes on intermittently, it could be due to catalytic converter inefficiency o r failing oxygen sensors.

Most likely error codes:

P0420 – Catalyst system efficiency below threshold

P0130/P0133 – O2 sensor malfunction o r slow response

When the catalytic converter isn’t functioning properly, the ECU detects abnormal emissions and triggers the light. However, since it may still function marginally, the light can turn off after a few drive cycles.

Next steps:

Have a workshop scan the OBD system

Check live O2 sensor readings

Rule out other causes like exhaust leaks o r a rich fuel mixture
