Why does my Suzuki Swift’s transmission make a whining o r grinding noise?

Lately, Ive been hearing a whining o r grinding noise coming from the transmission, especially when I shift gears. This issue seems to occur more frequently in older Swift models in Pakistan. Could this be a sign of low transmission fluid, a worn clutch, o r a problem with the gears? How can I identify the exact cause?

A whining o r grinding noise from the transmission could indicate several issues, some of which may require prompt attention to prevent further damage.

Common Causes:

Low o r Dirty Transmission Fluid: If the transmission fluid is low o r contaminated, it can cause friction between the moving parts inside the transmission, leading to whining o r grinding noises.

Worn Bearings o r Gears: Over time, bearings and gears in the transmission may wear out, causing grinding noises when the vehicle is in gear.

Clutch Problems: If the vehicle has a manual transmission, the noise could also come from a worn clutch o r pressure plate, which may be causing difficulty in gear engagement and slippage.

Input Shaft o r Output Shaft Issues: A worn input o r output shaft bearing can also lead to grinding noises when the engine is under load.

Fixes:

Check the transmission fluid and top it off o r change it if its dirty o r low. Regular fluid changes are crucial for smooth transmission operation.

Inspect the transmission for wear in its components, such as gears o r bearings, and replace them if needed.

Get the clutch system checked if the car has a manual transmission, as a worn-out clutch o r pressure plate can cause similar symptoms.

If these solutions don’t resolve the issue, a complete transmission inspection might be needed.
