Why Does My Tucson’s Battery Keep Dying in Cold o r Rainy Weather?

During colder mornings o r after heavy rain, my Hyundai Tucson struggles to start o r shows a completely dead battery. The battery is less than a year old. Could weather o r moisture be affecting the electrical system o r battery terminals?

Cold starts and damp weather can expose weak batteries o r poor terminal connections. In Pakistan, monsoon and winter seasons are common times for battery problems. Causes include:

Lower battery efficiency in cold temperatures battery provides less current.

Corroded o r loose terminals due to moisture.

Moisture ingress into the fuse box o r ECU, causing short circuits o r parasitic drain.

What to do:

Clean and tighten battery terminals every 6 months.

Apply anti-corrosion grease on battery posts.

During cold mornings, give the ignition a few seconds after key-in before starting.

Park in a covered space when possible during rain.

If your battery is already 1.5–2 years old, it may be time to replace it with a higher CCA-rated battery suited for colder starts.
