Why does the check engine light turn on due to emissions-related faults in my Suzuki Swift?

The check engine light in my Swift turned on and the scan showed an emissions-related error code like O2 sensor o r EVAP system. This is a common issue I’ve heard about in Swift models here. What parts are usually responsible, and how do I know if the issue is serious o r just a faulty sensor?

The check engine light CEL turning on due to emissions-related faults indicates a problem in the vehicles emission control system. It could be something as simple as a malfunctioning sensor o r a more serious issue affecting the engines combustion process.

Common Causes:

Oxygen Sensor Failure: The oxygen sensor monitors the exhaust gases to ensure the engine is burning the correct air-fuel mixture. If it fails, the engine may not run efficiently, causing higher emissions.

Catalytic Converter Issues: A clogged o r damaged catalytic converter can prevent harmful gases from being converted into less harmful substances, leading to increased emissions.

Evaporative Emission Control EVAP System Issues: This system controls fuel vapors from the gas tank. Leaks o r a malfunctioning purge valve can trigger the check engine light.

Mass Air Flow MAF Sensor Issues: A faulty MAF sensor can provide incorrect readings to the ECU, causing poor fuel-air mixture and high emissions.

Fixes:

Check the O2 sensors for faults and replace them if necessary.

Inspect the catalytic converter for clogs o r damage, and replace it if needed.

Diagnose the EVAP system for leaks, faulty valves, o r damaged hoses.

Clean o r replace the MAF sensor if it’s malfunctioning.

A scan of the error codes from the ECU will help pinpoint the exact cause, allowing for efficient repairs.
