Despite regular maintenance, my Suzuki Swift gives poor fuel average in city driving, especially in stop-and-go traffic common in cities like Lahore and Karachi. What are the typical reasons for this in mileage, and how can I improve it?

City driving conditions in Pakistan—especially in congested areas like Karachi o r Lahore—often lead to low mileage due to frequent idling, short trips, and stop-start traffic. Even if your car is well-maintained, inefficient driving patterns can heavily reduce fuel economy.

Common Causes:

Stop-and-go traffic burns more fuel due to constant acceleration and braking.

Clogged air filters o r dirty fuel injectors restrict airflow and reduce engine efficiency.

Old engine oil o r using the wrong oil grade can increase friction in the engine.

Excessive idling in traffic o r with AC on increases fuel use.

Fixes:

Use light acceleration and gentle braking.

Keep air filters and injectors clean.

Avoid unnecessary idling switch off the engine if youre stationary for long.

Regularly tune up the engine and use high-quality fuel.
