. Why is my Mercedes giving poor fuel economy in Pakistani cities despite regular servicing?

Many Mercedes owners in cities like Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi report fuel averages as low as 6–8 km/l in normal city driving, even after regular maintenance like oil and filter changes. Could this poor fuel economy be caused by heavy traffic, short-distance driving, o r something specific to Mercedes engines in local conditions? Are there engine sensors, air filters, o r fuel injectors that commonly cause this problem?

Common Causes:

Stop-and-go traffic and short trips don’t allow the engine to reach full operating efficiency, especially for turbocharged engines o r larger sedans.

Clogged air filters, dirty MAF sensors, o r worn spark plugs reduce combustion efficiency, even if oil changes are done regularly.

Old o r under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance.

AC usage and frequent idling in traffic especially with the engine running for long periods also contribute.

What to do:

Clean o r replace the mass airflow sensor MAF and air filter every ~10,000 km in dusty areas.

Scan for hidden engine fault codes e.g., oxygen sensor, injector imbalance.

Use eco driving habits: light throttle, early upshifts, and avoid unnecessary idling.
