Can a bad starter motor drain my Suzuki Wagon R battery quickly?

My Wagon R’s battery keeps draining, and the mechanic said the starter motor might be faulty. How does a busted starter motor affect the battery? Can it cause frequent battery drainage o r other electrical issues in the car?

Yes, a faulty starter motor can drain the battery quickly. This happens because:

A damaged starter motor can have internal electrical shorts o r mechanical binding that causes it to draw excessive current even when not in use.

During cranking, if the starter motor is inefficient o r stuck, it requires more power, draining the battery faster.

Sometimes a starter motor doesn’t disengage properly, causing a parasitic drain.

If your battery drains quickly and you hear unusual noises when trying to start, have the starter motor and related wiring inspected immediately.
