Can a faulty alternator o r charging system cause battery to die in Wagon R?

My 2017 Suzuki Wagon R had a weak battery for a while, and even after changing it, the problem came back. A mechanic said the alternator might not be charging properly. How do I check whether the alternator is causing the battery to die? What are signs of a bad alternator in Wagon R, and how often does it fail in Pakistani conditions?

Yes, a bad alternator is one of the main causes of battery failure.

Signs of a Failing Alternator:

Dim headlights, flickering dashboard lights

Battery light stays on o r flickers on the dashboard

Voltage s below 13.0V while engine is running

Battery drains even while driving

Alternator Failure in Pakistan:

Dusty roads and cheap local repairs often shorten alternator life

Alternator usually lasts 80,000–100,000 km, but may fail earlier due to poor-quality replacements

What to Do:

Have your alternator tested by a reputable electrician using a multimeter o r alternator test tool

Don’t use refurbished alternators from roadside shops—go for genuine Denso o r Japanese ones if replacing

Tip: Always replace the alternator belt too if it’s slipping o r making noise.
