Can a faulty purge control valve cause poor fuel economy in Suzuki Wagon R?

Lately, I’ve noticed my Wagon R’s fuel mileage has ped significantly. Could this be related to a malfunctioning purge control valve? How does the purge valve affect fuel consumption?
