Does a dirty throttle body affect Wagon R’s fuel economy in Pakistan?

My mechanic suggested that the throttle body on my 2019 Wagon R VXR needs cleaning, as it could be affecting the fuel average. Right now, I’m getting only 11–12 km/l in mixed driving. The engine feels a bit sluggish too. Could a dirty throttle body really be the reason? What’s the recommended cleaning interval, and is it safe to use fuel system cleaners like STP o r Liqui Moly?

Yes. A carboned-up throttle body leads to:

Poor airflow

Irregular idling

Higher fuel injection to maintain engine power

This often results in poor fuel economy and sluggish response.

What to Do:

Get the throttle body cleaned every 15,000–20,000 km

Avoid roadside mechanics using aggressive cleaners they can damage sensors

Use branded fuel injector cleaner e.g., Liqui Moly Jectron o r STP as preventive care

Warning: Never clean electronic throttle bodies without disconnecting the battery
