Engine Check Light On Due to Oxygen O2 Sensor – Kia Grand Carnival 2018
I own a 2018 Kia Grand Carnival Pakistani model, and recently the engine check light came on. I scanned it and got an error code related to the O2 sensor. The car runs fine overall, but the fuel economy has ped a bit. A local mechanic suggested replacing the oxygen sensor, but I’m not sure if it needs cleaning o r full replacement. Has anyone else in Pakistan faced this issue? What’s the best solution, and how much does a new sensor cost locally?

This is a common issue in Kia Grand Carnival models, especially the 2018–2019 variants. The oxygen O2 sensor plays a key role in managing the fuel-to-air ratio for optimal combustion.
🔍 Possible Causes:
Aging Sensor: O2 sensors typically wear out over time around 80,000–120,000 km.
Dirty Fuel o r Carbon Deposits: Poor fuel quality in Pakistan can shorten sensor life.
Exhaust Leaks: A small exhaust leak can lead to false readings and trigger the engine light.
🛠️ Solutions:
Scan the car using an OBD2 tool to verify the error code usually something like P0131, P0132.
If the sensor is just dirty, some workshops offer sensor cleaning, though this is only a temporary fix.
Best long-term solution: Replace the faulty sensor.
There are typically two O2 sensors: upstream pre-cat and downstream post-cat. Make sure the right one is diagnosed.
💰 Estimated Cost in Pakistan:
OBD scan: PKR 1,000–2,000
O2 sensor original o r good aftermarket: PKR 8,000–18,000
Labor: PKR 1,500–2,500
Tip: Avoid driving long-term with a bad sensor — it increases fuel consumption and can damage the catalytic converter.
