Erratic Fuel Gauge / Incorrect Sensor Readings
Erratic Fuel Gauge / Incorrect Sensor Readings
Lately, the fuel gauge in my Proton X70 sometimes shows full, then s quickly even though I just filled up. Other dashboard sensors like coolant temp o r oil level seem normal but occasionally flicker o r reset. Could this be due to a faulty fuel level sensor in the tank, dashboard ECU sensor error, o r wiring issue? How common is this problem in Pakistan’s hot climate and rough roads?

Gari Master - on 19 Dec 2025 17:14:05 pmFuel gauge o r other sensor readings that jump around can come from faulty sensors, electrical issues, o r dashboard module glitches:
Possible Causes:
Faulty Fuel Level Sensor Inside Fuel Tank: These sensors can wear out and give incorrect fuel position data.
Wiring o r Connector Issues: Vibrations from rough Pakistani roads can loosen wiring o r cause intermittent sensor signals.
Dashboard ECU / Instrument Cluster Glitch: Sometimes the cluster misinterprets valid sensor signals due to internal errors.
What to Check:
✔ Monitor fuel level behavior after a full tank and drive — see if the jump happens at specific points.
✔ Inspect wiring from the fuel tank sensor under rear seats for loose connectors.
✔ Run a diagnostic scan to check for sensor fault codes in the instrument cluster.
Tip: High heat inside the cabin common in Pakistan can sometimes accelerate fuel sender unit failure, so this isn’t unusual.
