How does poor fuel quality in Pakistan affect the catalytic converter of Wagon R?

I regularly use local petrol in my Wagon R, and lately, I’ve been hearing that low-quality fuel can damage the catalytic converter. Can anyone confirm if this is true? What signs should I watch out for that indicate catalytic converter damage due to bad fuel? And is there any specific fuel brand in Pakistan that helps avoid this issue?

Fuel quality in Pakistan is a major contributor to catalytic converter problems, particularly for cars like the Wagon R that are sensitive to impurities. Substandard fuel often contains high levels of sulfur, lead residues, o r other contaminants, which:

Cause the catalytic converter to overheat o r degrade prematurely.

Lead to carbon buildup, choking the honeycomb structure inside the converter.

Shorten the life of oxygen sensors, which also affects converter efficiency.

Signs of damage include poor fuel average, sluggish throttle response, rough idling, and a check engine light. To reduce risk:

Use fuel from reputable fuel stations e.g., PSO, Total.

Add a fuel system o r catalytic converter cleaner every few thousand kilometers.

Don’t drive with low-quality engine oil o r overdue maintenance.
