How to test and clean the purge control valve on a Suzuki Wagon R?

I suspect my Wagon R’s purge control valve might be clogged o r stuck. Is it possible to test and clean the purge valve myself, o r should I take it to a mechanic? What are the steps involved in checking the purge valve condition?

Testing and cleaning the purge control valve is possible with basic tools but often requires mechanical experience:

Testing:

Disconnect the valve’s vacuum hose and check if the valve opens and closes when voltage is applied using a multimeter o r power source.

Listen for clicking sounds indicating the valve is operating.

Check for vacuum leaks o r blockages by feeling suction o r using a hand-held vacuum pump.

Cleaning:

Remove the valve carefully from the engine bay.

Use a carburetor o r throttle body cleaner spray to clean inside the valve and hoses.

Avoid damaging the electrical connector o r diaphragm inside.

If unsure, it’s best to have a qualified mechanic perform these tests and cleanings.
