Is a clogged catalytic converter the reason for my Wagon Rs weak acceleration and engine knocking?

I’ve noticed my Suzuki Wagon R has become sluggish, especially when going uphill o r with the AC on. Sometimes theres also a knocking sound. A mechanic suggested the catalytic converter might be choked. Is this a common problem for Wagon R in Pakistan? How do I confirm it’s the catalytic converter and not something else like bad spark plugs o r fuel injectors?

Yes, a clogged catalytic converter is one of the most common causes of weak acceleration and engine knocking in the Suzuki Wagon R, especially in Pakistan where poor fuel quality and short-trip driving habits are common. When the catalytic converter becomes clogged, it restricts exhaust flow, which puts extra load on the engine. This leads to poor acceleration, reduced power, and sometimes engine knocking o r misfires.

To confirm the issue:

Have a mechanic perform a backpressure test o r use an OBD-II scanner to check for catalytic converter-related error codes like P0420.

Listen for rattling noises from underneath the car sign of a damaged converter.

If possible, have the exhaust system visually inspected for blockages o r discoloration.
