My Wagon R is showing poor fuel average – could old spark plugs be the reason?

Lately, my Suzuki Wagon R’s fuel average has ped from around 15-16 km/l to 11-12 km/l without any change in driving habits. I got the air filter and oil changed but no improvement. Could this be due to faulty o r old spark plugs? How can spark plug condition affect mileage?
