Why does my Mercedes-Benz show a Check Emissions warning in Pakistan?

I’ve recently started getting a “Check Emissions” warning on my Mercedes-Benz dashboard. The car is running fine otherwise, but this warning keeps appearing, especially after refueling o r city driving. Is this related to the fuel quality in Pakistan o r a sensor issue? How serious is this problem, and what should I get checked first?

The “Check Emissions” warning is quite common in Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Pakistan and is often triggered due to several local factors. Here are the most common causes:

Poor fuel quality: Many fuel stations in Pakistan sell petrol and diesel that may not meet European emission standards. This can affect the car’s combustion process and trigger the emissions warning.

Faulty oxygen sensor O2 sensor: This sensor monitors exhaust gases and helps control emissions. Dirty o r contaminated fuel can damage it over time.

Loose o r faulty fuel cap: In some cases, something as simple as not tightening the fuel cap properly can cause an emissions alert.

Exhaust gas recirculation EGR issues: The EGR valve can get clogged due to dirty fuel o r frequent short-distance driving.
